Whilst the Diamond Jubilee Pageant on dry land is to be held in Windsor Castle, London will be having its very own Diamond Pageant, on the Thames River! On the Sunday afternoon of June the 3rd this year, there will be more than one thousand boats floating along the Thames River. These boats will be lead by Queen herself down along the waters of the Thames, in honour of the Diamond Jubilee.

It is to be one of the most extravagant flotillas ever on this famous river. The flotilla itself will be surrounded by a stream of passenger boats, which are expected to hold more than thrity thousand members of the public.  The boats will come in the form of working boats, to steam boats, to modest row boats and every shape and size in between, all decorated with Union Jack flags and colourful streamers. Aside from the public, there will be many other official groups, including the rescue services, the police, the fire brigade and the armed forces.

The watery celebrations will also include elaborate daytime fireworks from pyrotechnic barges, as well as music barges which will keep the crowds entertained and delighted as the boats and ships pass them by.

Just past London Bridge, there are plans to have a gun salutation ceremony as the flotilla, with its naval ships, riggers, sailing boats and yachts.

This afternoon is set to be one of the most lavish and thrilling maritime events the city of London has ever seen; for such a significant occasion, the organisers are going all out in terms of music, festivities and general celebratory events.

Members of the public who will not be on the waters for the celebrations can still enjoy what will surely be a spectacular display, as the bridges, riverside roads and piers of the Thames will be closed to cars, so that people can walk along and take in the sights of the pageant with ease. For those who can’t get through the crowds to see the event directly, there will also be fifty big screen televisions set up across the city, so that almost anyone in the city can enjoy the sights of the pageant.

One the same day, Battersea Park will be honouring the Thames Diamond Jubilee pageant with a day-long event of funfair rides, music and other entertainment. Souvenirs will be available at this event, but are likely to sell out very quickly. Don’t miss out on a keepsake for this important occasion; why notbuy some gifts for the Diamond Jubilee to commemorate the event?
